(NAPS)-Across the country, teens and young adults enjoy all-night dance parties known as "raves" and increasingly encounter more than just music. Dangerous substances known collectively as club drugs-including Ecstasy, GHB, and Rohypnol-are gaining popularity. These drugs aren't "fun drugs."

Young people want us to believe that raves are just about dancing and socializing. But the truth is that some teens are attracted to dance parties and clubs because of the readily available “club drugs” present at these events.

And while teens think club drugs, such as Ecstasy, GHB and Rohypnol, are harmless fun, studies show the following negative effects of club drugs:

Ecstasy is a stimulant and a hallucinogen, also known by the slang terms "X," "Adam " and "MDMA." . Methamphetamine, a drug that is often made in home laboratories with varying degrees of purity, is also called "Speed," "Ice," "Chalk," and "Meth.". Methamphetamine use can cause heart problems, memory loss, violence and psychotic behavior.

LSD, or "Acid,"– is a powerful hallucinogen that can cause insomnia, numbness, weakness, nausea, increased heart rate, sweating and "flashbacks." Depending on the amount taken, where the drug is used and the user's personality, individuals may have a “high” from LSD or severe lows, or a “bad trip.”.
